Matthew's Story

Hi, I'm Matthew Laddiman from Norwich in the UK. I'm a certified personal trainer.
From my late teens to late 20s I believed that you had to train with high volume at least five/six days a week. I was wrong! Overtime that caught up with me and I struggled to make continuous progress in the gym and felt run down more often than not. I see many people make the same mistakes and go to the gym nearly everyday and they have little to show for it. Also 6/8 small protein rich meals a day is completely unnecessary.
When I got Covid in 2020 working as a hospital porter, I was diagnosed with IBS and a few months later Long Covid. I was very ill for 2 years and lost lots of muscle, put on weight and had to leave my NHS job due to continuous sickness from IBS, long Covid and mental health issues. After a few months break from working, I started to feel better. I had been eating a very healthy diet and had the confidence to start working out at a gym again. I had a casual conversation with the gym manager Pumped Gym in Norwich and he said “Have you thought about becoming a personal trainer in the future? You are very knowledgeable about weight training and nutrition”. I replied, “Thanks for the compliment! I’d love to do it but I’m not sure if my health will allow me to do it. I will have a look online at some courses and then make a decision”. That day has changed my life in many positive ways. I’m now a self-employed personal trainer and corporate gym manager at Royal Mail in Norwich. My mental health is also a lot better, I have more energy to do daily tasks and I’m in the best shape of my life since my early 20’s.
Now I only train 3 days a week instead of 5-6 days, have more time to spend on other important aspects of life such as meeting up with family/friends, building my business and overall health and wellbeing. Suffering with health issues has made me appreciate life more and determined to help you get in great shape and improve your overall health.
Now I've studied and am a Personal Trainer, I understand how everyone can achieve great results in the gym without wasting precious time.
